The documentary Butterflies was recently featured on Sky News, where filmmaker Vahid Keshavarz was invited to discuss the film and the broader experiences of Iranian artists living in exile.

During the interview, Keshavarz spoke about the six-year process of making Butterflies across Iran and Europe, as well as his recent return to Iran after nearly sixteen years to visit his seriously ill father and film the final sequence of the documentary. While there, he unexpectedly witnessed the country’s most recent protests.

The conversation explored themes at the heart of the film, including exile, artistic freedom, and the resilience of Iranian artists continuing their work beyond their homeland.
